Anyone with an ORCID, at least 3 publications on OpenAlex, and no conflict of interest can review.
Post a free preprint, or send it for peer review. Review costs 4 credits, which co-authors pool. You earn a credit for each review you write.
PeerRxiv does not use a binary "peer-validated" or "rejected" stamp. Instead, every manuscript displays its live, transparent reviewer tally — for example, Reviewed by 5 Reviewers (3 Accept · 2 Major Revision), updating to Reviewed by 5 Reviewers (4 Accept · 1 Major Revision) after Round 2. Because all versions, reviews, and author responses are 100% open, readers evaluate the scientific record directly.
There is no review deadline. Up to 3 pending review comments can be active at a time before the author responds (preventing duplicate review pile-ons), and each reviewer is capped at 2 rounds (Pass 1: Initial Review → Author Revision → Pass 2: Final Reviewer Opinion → Author Final Closure). Reviewers #1–#5 are core mandatory; for Reviewer #6+, it is the author's decision whether to publish v6/v7+ or acknowledge the comment.
Every signed peer review receives its own PeerRxiv DOI and a separate free CERN Zenodo DataCite DOI, plus its own scientific reference list and standalone landing page (/reviews/:id), so reviewers can claim their reviews as formal research outputs.
Reading and standard peer review (via 4 pooled review credits) are free. PeerRxiv is chaired at Xiamen University Malaysia and operates under the Open Source Collective non-profit umbrella.
The decision is computed from the reviews by open-source rules, then hashed so anyone can check it.
